General Information

Composition shingles vary in grades and ratings, ie Class A, B or C fire ratings. The higher rating you get, the longer the roof should last. Class A ratings may also offer you home owner insurance discounts.

Comp shingles (a common nickname), are generally talked about using the warranty term, such as "20-year, 30-year", etc.  As technology advances, asphalt or comp shingles are now being manufactured with lifetime warranties and "cool" ratings, which can qualify for energy rebates. We'll be happy to explain all this to you.

Composition shingles, also called ASPHALT shingles, are either organic-based or fiberglass-based.

The 4 main types of composition shingles include:

Strip Shingles, made three times as long as they are wide. They are often called "three-tab" shingles.

Laminated Shingles have more than one layer of tabs to create different thicknesses. They may also be called dimensional or architectural shingles because the visual depth created.

Interlocking Shingles are individual shingles that are fastened to each other. These provide greater wind resistance.

Large Format Shingles are usually rectangular or hexagonal in shape.
